A little more about myself, and how ASC began...
Design has always been my passion. When I was younger, everyone would always hear me say that when I grew up I wanted to be a "designer". Back then, I didn't really know what that meant, but fast forward through college, and I was graduating from Indiana University with my B.A. in Graphic Design. My professional experience started in the corporate world, where I gained 5+ years of valuable experience. The problem was, I knew my heart wasn't in that type of design environment. As I began working with couples for their weddings on the side, I quickly realized what my dream career was. With my husband's support, I took a leap of faith, left my full-time 9-5 career, and went on to pursue ASC. I haven't looked back since! Athena Street Creative has grown due to my love for working directly with brides, grooms, and all those involved in events.
So, where did "Athena" come from?
The name is essentially a nod to the "Gilmore Girls" type relationship my Mom and I have. I wanted a way to incorporate something symbolic we share, even if other people never fully understood the meaning behind it. In short, Athena was that symbolic word for me. A few years back, my Mom and I took a trip together to Europe. We visited numerous countries, and one of our favorites was Greece. In Athens, we learned all about their history, and the goddess Athena. She is the patron of Athens, and her symbol is an owl which can be seen throughout the city. On that trip, my Mom and I bought matching owl figurines, and ever since, we exchange owls for special occasions. It only made sense to include that special tradition in my business name.
